Let's face it folks these old methods just take too much effort and don't really get the best finish ayway.
The smart guys have discovered Micro Fiber. These incredible towels will do anything from removing wax quickly & easily to cleaning glass with a quick wipe.
How do they work? It's simple really. Just like your high tech outdoor clothing, micro fibre uses thousands of tiny fibers that are much smaller than those found in the cottons used to make traditional terry towels. These tiny fibers pick up much more stuff off the surface you are cleaning. Also, they don't pill like cotton does so they don't create swirl marks like a terry towel.

One thing that prevents many Pros from using these towels is their cost. A 12" square towel is often as much as $10 each. The Garage Guy has latched onto a bulk source & we can sell them for only $3.25 each! These are so good that you will want to buy enough to have a bunch for glass and another bunch for wax & interior duties. Don't forget the windows in the house & all that stainless in the kitchen.

Professional detailer products now online

After receiving requests from several detailers regarding pricing and product availability, we have decided to begin listing all of the Meguiar's Professional Detailer line on our web site.

Just a reminder that these products are offered in the quantities you pro guys need, like 5 gallon pails, that aren't really suitable for the home enthusiast. This semi pro series promised to offer some great racing action for a Friday afternoon. Unfortunately we arrived just in time for the rather pathetic media race. Legendary Canadian horse jockey Sandy Hawley was running away with the race until the second last lap, when his engine started sputtering & he ended up finishing third to some radio guys I had never heard of.
We caught a bit of Junior Inter Continental qualifying & then the rapidly approaching lightning storm sent us scurrying back to the car. It's just that one of it's main marketing features makes no sense!
They have taken a traditional, pro style wash brush & attached it to a nice quality aluminum extension handle with soft foamy grips. To this, they have added a hose attachment to the end of the handle, which allows fresh water to flow through the handle & out the center of the brush. So what is the problem with that you ask? Simple. It washes the suds right out of your brush!
Used normally, without a hose, it is actually a really nice brush. The soft tips of the bristles are gentle on the paint and the brush holds the suds really well. The extendible handle will be a great help to SUV and minivan owners.

Even though the brush features a soft rubber edge around the hard center piece, you still hear the occasional thud as your brush bumps into the body wherever there are sharp angles, like at the base of the windshield. This nice brush just shows that if you are in a hurry, the brush always wins. If you love your paint though, you will use a good quality fuzzy wash mitt!

2005 VARAC Vintage Festival

A whole crowd of us attended the 26th annual vintage festival at Mosport last weekend and were happy to see some great racing with some of the coolest cars in Ontario!

My fave had to be the unbelievably loud & fast BMW M1 endurance racer that came out of long storage last summer. the last time I saw this car was at the Group C endurance race at Mosport in 1984! It is even more outrageous now that it isn't surrounded by all the factory Porsche 956's and the like. Maybe next year the organizers can convince some of the endurance car owners to come out to show off some really heavy metal!

It was also a treat to see some of the old standbys of racing in Ontario. Minis, Porsches, Volvos and all sorts of sports racers took to the track for a weekend of fun. Fun is the key word to vintage racing, as the competitors are more interested in having a good time & excercising their old race cars than they are at beating the next guy. It is always my favourite event of the summer!

<img style="BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; Since we now have a Mazda Protege5 in the fleet, we decided to poke our heads in at our first toprotege.com event. Actually, this was a joint Show & Shine with the toprotege.com crew and thegang from torontomazda3.com and was billed as a show.

My first impression is... WOW did I feel old! I think the average age was probably around 22 and a great big old guy who showed up with a kid in tow almost seemed out of place. That said, it was nice to put a few faces to some names & as always, see some great cars. I came away with a few ideas that we will try on our car & a few that we will stay away from! For my own projects, I still lean towards funtional mods rather than strictly visual ones.

Things are heating up around here!

Well, spring is here & The Garage Guy has been so busy out visiting shows, race tracks and other cool stuff that I haven't been able to update the Blog! Over the last 3 weeks, we have been to so many events it's hard to keep track. I just spent 3 days at ECP in Chicago learning about some incredible new professional car care products. ECP is the company that makes all of our detailing aids & The Protector line of products. I had heard that they were large, but I really had no idea. There are 23,000 new car dealers in the USA, and ECP provides all the car clean up products for 11,000 of them! Their training center is every detailer's dream, from the incredible Hydro Foam machine to the cabinets to the new products in development. I want to duplicate this place here in Ontario. Sorry I didn't get any pictures, but my camera doesn't take great indoors shots. Watch our main web site for some new products from ECP soon!

The Garage Guy got out last night to visit the new north Whitby weekly cruise night, hosted by the Road Legends Cruisers and East Side Mario's.

After missing the first cruise last week due to our own automotive calamity, I decided to take the boys up & have a walk around. I was very impressed that such a new cruise had so many cars. I would guess at about 40, but I didn't really count. I was too busy chasing the boys. Just a note for all you parents.... just because your boys might be used to going to car stuff with you doesn't mean that you should take 2 of them by yourself! Don't Touch!!

I'm looking forward to watching the cruise grow every Monday, and I'm hoping to sponsor a night later this summer! Hopefully next week I'll remember to charge the camera batteries & get some pictures instead of borrowing one from the Road Legends!

For more info on cruising in Durham and the Road Legends Cruisers, visit http://www.roadlegendscruisers.com/main.html

The Garage Guy visits Racing Against Drugs

Last week, Miss Shelby & I had the chance to spend a day speaking to kids about kart racing at the annual Racing Against Drugs event at Iroquois Park in Whitby. RAD is a community based drug and alcohol awareness program that has been run in Durham by the RCMP since 1998. Grade 5 students from across Durham Region are brought in to learn about a healthy lifestyle, showing racing as a great alternative.

The Mosport Kart Club hosts a booth each year & every day, a different young kart racer attends to tell the visitors about their experiences with racing as a fun family sport. Shelby had a great time & I think that she learned some great confidence lessons by speaking to groups of kids her own age.

You can learn more about RAD at http://autonet.ca/rad/Home.cfm and more about the Mosport Kart Club at http://www.mosportkartclub.com/index.htm

The Meguiar's Water Magnet drying towel soaks up 3 times the water of traditional terry cloth. Joining Bouran Data Services in their quest to expand from karts to cars, I spent the last weekend in the paddock with Team Mad Macs and their fleet of race cars. I have to say that the return was nothing less than incredible. I met and worked with the most wonder bunch of people, that made me remember why I continue to be interested in this crazy hobby. I am amazed at how easily we fit into this team of pros. When the weather threw a few curve balls, I had the opportunity to swing into action with these guys while helping with several tire changes & with the reconstructive surgery on a Civic following a heavy off track excursion. The team works well with each other & I was impressed as a newcomer that I fit into the flow of work right away while pulling apart the bent racer. It felt like I had been working with this team for years. I'm looking forward to the rest of the summer!

The Garage Guy is going racing once again!

The Garage Guy Homepage is LIVE!!

The Garage Guy is proud to announce that our official homepage is now live!

You can now visit us at

www.thegarageguy.ca

Check out these cool air freshener helmets from JV!
